Phuket Airport to Patong: Prices, Time, and What to Expect
Patong Beach is the most popular hotel area in Phuket, and most travelers go straight there from Phuket International Airport (HKT). The good news is that the route is direct and well-paved. The less-good news is that the trip is longer than people expect — Phuket Airport is in the north of the island and Patong is roughly halfway down the west coast.
How long does the Phuket Airport to Patong taxi take?
The drive from HKT to Patong is about 38 km and typically takes 55 to 70 minutes. In high season (December to February) and at peak afternoon hotel check-in times, traffic on Highway 4 and the descent into Patong can add another 10–20 minutes. Plan for at least an hour and a quarter to be comfortable.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the type of vehicle and the time of day. Public meter taxis at the airport are not always strictly metered, and prices on arrival can be inconsistent. A pre-booked private taxi gives you a clear flat rate in Thai Baht agreed before you land — no haggling at the curb, no late-night surcharge surprises.

What are my taxi options at HKT?
- Pre-booked private taxi. The most predictable option. Driver waits at arrivals with a name sign, helps with luggage, takes you straight to your hotel.
- Airport taxi counter. Available inside the terminal. Convenient if you didn’t pre-book, but pricing and vehicle quality vary.
- Shared minibus. Cheaper per person but stops at multiple hotels. Often slow after a long flight.
- Ride-hailing apps. Coverage at the airport varies and pickup zones can be confusing for first-time visitors.
Where do I meet the driver?
At HKT, both the international and domestic terminals exit into a covered curb area. After you collect luggage and clear customs, look for the meet-and-greet zone — your driver will be there with a sign showing your name. We’ll WhatsApp you the driver’s photo and phone number before you land so you can recognize them.
What to expect on arrival
Phuket airport is busy but well-organized. Expect 20–40 minutes between landing and being in the car: passport control, baggage, and the walk to the meeting point. If your flight is delayed, don’t worry — we track flight numbers and there’s no extra charge for normal delays.
Tips for first-time travelers
- Have your hotel name and address saved offline before you land.
- Bring small Thai Baht notes for tolls and snacks; major hotels and our drivers accept Baht.
- If you’re traveling with kids, request a child seat when you book.
- Book the return airport transfer at the same time — it makes the last day much easier.
- Late at night, a pre-booked driver is the safest choice.
